Any of you folks going to be in Monterey at any point next week for Car Week Craziness? I’m planning on being there Thursday the 13th and Friday the 14th, specifically for the Tour d’Elegance and the Historics. Lets hang out.

I want to but sadly no tickets :(

tickets to what? I don’t have tickets to the concours (I won’t be there on the weekend)... and the tour d’elegance is free.

Woah seriously? In that case I might actually go. I’ll update you closer to the day. Where were you thinking of having the meet up?

I might be able to make it too! If I sell my Fiero this weekend that is....

Yes! I'll be at the RM auction on Friday night...

Dude. Are you a registered bidder?
![]() 08/07/2015 at 20:31 |

Not sure. I’ll only be there on Thursday and Friday though. Probably Thursday mid-day, maybe like a lunch thing? I’ll be spectating/photographing the Tour on Thursday morning, but free cause it’s on public roads.
Heres a list of all the events, many are free or minimal cost: http://www.montereycarweek.com/Events.html

Can you get me in??
![]() 08/07/2015 at 21:37 |

Lol I wish I had that kind of money! Last year I just dressed nicely and walked right in through a side entrance, and somehow managed to get behind the barriers and right up next to the cars. Moral of the story: dress nicely and nobody will ask questions. Want to meet up there?

I’ll be there for the Concours on Sunday, but only that. Would like to be there for the auction too, but touring San Francisco and the surrounding area is a nice alternative.
![]() 08/07/2015 at 22:27 |

Damn thats crazy! Did you get in the room while the auction was happening?
I’m down to meet up on Friday and give it a go. How nicely are we talking?
![]() 08/07/2015 at 23:11 |

Sweet. I’ll check my schedule when it’s closer and get back to you.

No, I didn’t want to push it that far! In terms of “dress nicely,” I just wore blue jeans and a button down shirt, but as long as it’s not like a t-shirt and shorts you'll probably be fine.
![]() 08/10/2015 at 00:39 |

Awesome. Thats perfect. Well I’m down to get in and watch the auction! Are you planning on going to any other events earlier int he day?
![]() 08/10/2015 at 01:09 |

Not Friday, I’ll probably show up around 3 or 4, depending on traffic. We live in San Jose, so the trip there shouldn’t be awful. We rented a house too so we might go throw our bags down there before we go to the auction. I’m totally up for checking out the cars though! I’ll be driving my 1955 Buick, so holler if you see me drive past!!
![]() 08/10/2015 at 01:11 |

Sweet! Thats awesome. I’ll be at the historics basically all day but I’d love to check out your Buick though if possible.

The ONLY ticket that’ll be hard to find is for The Quail, as they sell out hours after they come up for sale. Tickets for everything else, you can buy at the gate. GO and enjoy yourself. It’s worth your effort.

Bring a sports jacket and / or light sweater. This time of the year, evenings especially, the coast can be quite foggy and cool. The only exception is daytime, later in the AM and into later PM plus Laguna Seca race track.
![]() 08/10/2015 at 02:13 |

Yeah I’m convinced to go now after hearing about the M3 GTRs today. Are you going?
![]() 08/10/2015 at 02:18 |
|
YES, driving from LA to San Luis Obispo Thursday afternoon/evening and spending a night. Then, bright and early 5:30 - 6:00 head up Hwy#1. Know it well. Need to do it at that time as 7-ish all tourists with their convertibles and motorhome plug that road right up.

ABSOLUTELY __ NOT __ this upcoming weekend, if you LOVE cars . . . Monterey is where it’s at. Save SF and the vine country for some other time. Trust me ;- )
![]() 08/10/2015 at 05:45 |
|
Oh I’m fully aware. I’ll be very prepared!!
![]() 08/10/2015 at 05:45 |

I completely AGREE! Skip SF for another time. Monterey is where it’s at this week for car nuts.

Nice! I’m heading the other way from the Bay Area. So I’ll be using 101. Hopefully the traffic isn’t that bad. Which events are you going to?

Received an invite by Singer’s main man to a private party Thursday. So, I’ll arrive very early in the morning, taking Hwy#1 twisty part up at daybreak . Then, it’ll be breakfast at the Wagon Wheel, a long time tradition. The party from 10 to 2PM and Laguna Seca afterwards.
It’s the BEST time to visit as no tickets are required while everyone is around setting up. Will visit with friends there till late. A glass of vino at the Bernardus Lodge before an invite to a dinner by another long time friend and his wife. Friday, will visit the BMW and PORSCHE gatherings first and do The Quail for the rest of the day as many other friends gather there as well. Just LOVE the wonderfully relaxed atmosphere there, cars, friends as well as wonderfully memorable food and drink. After couple of double espressos toward the end, the plan is to head back immediately afterwards...
And what’s on your agenda?
![]() 08/10/2015 at 20:49 |
|
Your agenda sounds like the stuff only found in dreams.
Mine is super tame compared to yours. I’ll be heading down to Monterey around 6:00am on Friday and hopefully getting there around 7am. Walk around a bit and then head to Legends of the Autobahn. Maybe Lunch somewhere around there. Then Classic Americana before finally heading to Exotics on Cannery Row. I’ll probably head back after that and go to a pub with some buddies.

If you come down earlier, I’ll invite you for a breakfast at the Wagon Wheel, if you like.
It’s located on Carmel Valley Road, immediately past the entrance road to the Quail Lodge just about another 150 feet further down the Valley Road. Can’t miss it, a large parking lot, where one turns to go to the famous Cantina. Since the PORSCHE Reunion starts at 7AM, an hour before Legends, a 6:30 at the Wagon Wheel will make us fashionably a bit late but still right after opening, since the P Reunion is about a mile, mile and half back toward Carmel.
Are you driving down in your M3 too? What year is yours?

Wagon Wheel, 7156 Carmel Valley Rd, Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA 93923 It opens at 6:30...

Wow, I’d be thrilled to join you if I’m not intruding or anything on your plans.
Sadly I don’t actually have an M3 contrary to my name. I’ll be making the trek in my Acura CL. Are you taking your 904?

Mother of god she’s a beauty.
I hate to do this but it looks like my buddy wants to tag along so I won’t be able to get there early. Thanks for the invite though.

Don’t be shy, bring him along! 6:30 @ the Wagon Wheel it is! Just don’t be late, please...
![]() 08/11/2015 at 21:31 |
|
Alright, I’ll let him know. We’ll see you there at 6:30.
My god that’s gorgeous!

That’s a spirit! Should make just one more re-confirmation Thursday night as late as possible, to make sure no plan change on my part because of some unforseen circumstances. When do you think that ought to be? At anytime that’s convenient for you...
![]() 08/11/2015 at 23:09 |

Sounds good. I’ll be on here until 11pm on Thursday but really any time is fine with me. If you want, I could email you my number if it’ll be easier.

Awesome- You can send me an email (timbeaulieu1 at gmail dot com) as it gets later in the evening!
![]() 08/14/2015 at 02:09 |

OK, made it! 6:30 @ the Wagon Wheel it still is! See you then!
![]() 08/14/2015 at 02:12 |

Sounds good. See you then. My buddy broke his leg last night so I’ll be going solo. I’ll be in a grey shirt.

Sorry to hear... :-(
My commitment in LA went up into the evening, so had to alter my plans a bit, not leaving till 5AM but still making the meeting here today in 4 hrs 20 min. Not a bad average for 348 miles of early morning travel.
More tomorrow... Sleep well!
